Director of Discipleship

Buncombe Street United Methodist Church is located in downtown Greenville, SC. Since our beginnings in 1834, we have

The Director of Discipleship serves to develop, oversee and supervise educational activities both on Sundays and
throughout the week. The primary purpose of these activities is to strengthen individual relationships with Christ through
increasing knowledge, fellowship, support and accountability. The Director of Discipleship is responsible for managing the
educational initiatives of the church and working with the church members, staff and committees to achieve the church’s
missions and objectives. Initiatives include but are not limited to Women’s Ministries, Men’s Ministries, Adult Ministries,
Youth Ministries, Children’s Ministries and Young Adult Ministries. This position will extend the ministry of the church to
employees, members, and the community

BSUMC Director of Discipleship JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Hopewell United Methodist Church, located in Simpsonville, is looking for a Nursery worker (for infants through toddler age) for Sundays between 10 AM – 12 PM, and for special services/events.

Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age, experience important, training – certification – CPR a plus, able to relate to parents as well as the children, and work with volunteers. Will need to pass a background check. Hourly wage is $15.00, guaranteed two hours each Sunday.

Advent United Methodist Church in Simpsonville has openings in their Nursery Ministry for paid workers.

Nursery Ministry provides infant and toddler care in a loving Christian setting, with age appropriate care and activities, including Bible stories, songs and games.  The positions are part time, primarily on Sunday mornings but also occasional additional hours available. This person is responsible for guiding the

Student Ministry Program (6 grade through college-age) that seeks to make disciples of

Jesus Christ. The Director is charged with directing, facilitating, and coordinating

student ministries in areas of Nurture, Outreach, Missions, and Witness. The Director is

responsible for maintaining and further developing a comprehensive and holistic program

that seeks to foster growth in love and service of Jesus Christ through study and worship;

in love of one another through missions; church involvement outside of the student

ministry; and social justice. The Director will also oversee the SUMC sports program for

children and youth.

Expectations to fulfill the position

o Profess and practice the Christian faith. Preferably a United Methodist.

o A holistic and dynamic approach toward Student Ministry.

o A team player and a self-starter (display initiative).

o Understand and uphold the theology and doctrines of The United Methodist


o Minimum of three years of experience in Youth Ministry, preferably in a large

church with multiple staff.

o Successfully pass a criminal background check and driving record review.

o Bachelor Degree in Christian Education, or related field.

o Certification in youth ministries or Christian education preferred.

o Have good communication and leadership skills.

o Attend worship and participate in programs where students and/or their families

are present.

o Works under the general guidelines of The United Methodist Church as described

in the current Book of Discipline.

o Works with other church staff in the implementation of programs that directly or

indirectly involves the youth and college-age.

o Adheres to the employment guidelines found in the SUMC Employee Handbook.

Director of Children and Youth

Reidville Road United Methodist Church, a growing church in Southwest Spartanburg County, is seeking a part-time (20 hours a week) Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries. This person will be responsible for helping to build a quality Children’s and Youth Program at the church. The primary focus will be developing a program for two different age levels which would include spiritual development, adventurous outings, and church activities. This is a part-time position but our desire is for it to become full-time. Experience with children’s/youth ministry is preferred but not required to apply. QUALIFICATIONS: A mature Christian person who is committed to the institutional church and belongs to a church. This person must have a love for people and demonstrated ability to work with people. This person should exhibit a personal manner and appearance that encourages a favorable response. The organist must have excellent keyboard skills and experience in organ. This person should be competent in a wide variety of musical styles and have experience and/or familiarity with a liturgical church.

TIME: This is a part-time position, which includes Sunday worship, weeknight rehearsal with the Chancel Choir, and other special worship occasions. (He/she may attend regular staff meetings and Administrative Board meetings.) It is expected that the organist/assistant will schedule regular practice time on the instruments at Lee Road United Methodist Church.

• Preparing and playing appropriate service music for worship
• Accompanying the Chancel Choir at rehearsals and worship
• Accompanying soloists and other ensembles
• Be available for special worship services other than Sunday morning (i.e., Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and other events)
• Play for all weddings at the church at a professional fee paid by the wedding party and in consultation with the Wedding Director
• If available, play for funerals in the church
• For any Sunday or special service at which the Organist must be absent, it is his or her responsibility to secure a replacement player

RELATIONSHIPS: The Organist will be responsible to the Pastor for supervision and to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee for reviews. The SPRC in consultation with the Pastor will conduct an annual evaluation of performance. The Organist will work in a team relationship with the Director of Music, Worship Group, and Pastor in the planning of Worship.
